Would it not be better to add an additional gconf-key to enable the additional margin in Unity instead of hard-coding it into the binary? Or maybe a new startup option which only Unity calls (Like "--unity-mode")? Or maybe Nautilus should look for a variable like "UNITY_EXTRA_MARGIN" or something else?

At the moment the extra margin is very annoying when using the classic mode.
