As much as I like the look of some of the beautiful work on Unity, and how well it runs at times, and the potential it has, I don't think it should be up to the window manager to determine how the menus of applications look. In all sincerity I believe there are too many different options possible, to for now, make one general layout. Some programs have 3 rows of buttons and menu's (Bluefish for example). It can also prove difficult to keep up with interface design in the future. Afraid this may be painting yourself into a corner.

A app button such as Firefox or Opera use, can possible be an option, but even then Firefox lets you choose how you want to dictate your button.

In conclusion I like the Gnome 3 interface better in that regard.

Also I find the whole shifting of the close, minimize buttons on the left side, underneath the application name confusing. I have given Unity a fair change, but when I have multiple apps open I find myself time and again getting lost and confused, as to what is where. I'm not sure if this is something that will grow on me, because I have to learn something new. In comparison I picked up the Gnome 3 interface up rather quickly, and it feels really intuitive.

I'm really wondering if this is not a waste of time and resources, and things should be concentrated on other things, or at least move Unity to a more experimental screen saver, and concentrate efforts on integrating Gnome 3 properly. Worst case scenario one can always fork that if not completely satisfied. Let's avoid building YAWM (Yet another window manager), that although it has promise, some really cool stuf, and beautiful design, it is too soon implement as such.
