Bug Description

Ubuntu 15.10]
I dont know what package but it affects retroarch and prison architect, not VLC, kodi, gimage, mcomix chrome,
I have seen mutliple games that run in full screen (retroarch, steam games, prison architect) each runs fine works well, I can switch them to windowed mode no problem. But if the fullscreen program is open and I hit the super key to bring up the dash the screen totally freezes, clock and every element on the screen. even desktop notifications. I have tried using the other shells available to kill the apps and nothing helps, but killing compiz resets all the widows and leaves the one that was full screen as a black window (but I am able to get out of it now with window switcher/desktop switcher) This has only happened since i did a fresh install of Willy

I beleive that everything that freezes is Open GL, I am able to reproduce this without fail in at least two full screen applications (prison archtect and retroarch, but not kodi) Volume notifications switching desktops, app switching, and chrome notifications all reproduce.
Kodi, web videos, mcomix does not reproduce the freezes.
So far I have not really found a way to recover, I have tried killing the app from tty, then restarting unity and that has worked a couple times but not consistently. I have no idea what exactly is causing this.
I can run these all windowed and have not problems,

I have the exact same problem. It's really, really annoying to try to change the system volume while in game and get the system completely frozen.

I can't apport-collect to this bug because I'm not the reporter, but I would be happy to help with any needed information or debugging.

The bug can be fixed:
- Install CompizConfig (sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager)
- Open CompizConfig
- Go to General -> Composite
- Add " & !(class=google-chrome) & !(class=PrisonArchitect.x86_64)" to "Unredirect Match" to fix Google Chrome and Prison Architect

Got this issue with Arma 3 and ETS2 on 16.04 LTS.

@Magnus
It's certainly appreciated that you suggest a temporary workaround (I have not tested it though), but this is not a permanent fix. We can't really expect users to write exceptions for every single game or application affected.

Yes, indeed. The interesting thing about this problem is that the workaround is enabled by default. If my memory serves me correctly, Firefox, VLC, and some other applications are included *by default* in that option.

By the way: don't credit me. I found the solution on ask Ubuntu a long time ago. Before some knowledged engineer can have a look at the issue: the compiz config settings manager makes adding the rules quite easy. (Check out the button on the right of the input)

The workaround had no effect for me running the game Angels Falls First under Wine in Ubuntu 16.04. I tried class!=Wine and name!=AFFGame.exe.
