I've a quite hard time in reproducing this, btw I've made a PPA with some fixes that should improve the things:
 - https://launchpad.net/~3v1n0/+archive/ubuntu/unity-tests

Give a try to that (for trusty, changes for utopic are already in main repo), if you get better results let us know.
