I was able to install compiz-core-dbgsym=1:0.9.12+14.10.20140918-0ubuntu1 and have been trying to do
    sudo gdb `pidof compiz`
but it gives me (2380 is the pid of compiz):
    2380: File or directory not found
    (gdb) bt full
    No stack.
