Bug Description

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04. The app does not send notifications nor does it give any indication of new mail. It also does not appear in the messaging menu.

I also do not get any notifications or indications about new mail, but in my case it appears in the messaging menu. I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 as well.

Started on the terminal it shows the following output repeatedly:

Unity-Mail: INFO: Connection #0 established
Unity-Mail: ERROR: Error in connection #0: exception occured: command: SEARCH => got more than 10000 bytes

Now strangely, it shows up in my messaging menu. I ran it from the terminal and it gave me an invalid credential error. When I changed my credentials, it would run successfully through the terminal, but it won't run on boot up or from the dash.

Can you please try the attached patch and see if it fixes the issue?

Apply it using "sudo patch /usr/share/unity-mail/UnityMail/application.py < patch.diff".

Can you please run "gnome-session-properties" and see if Unity Mail appears/is checked there?

@Dmitry: I'm sorry, the patch just changes the error message.

Unity-Mail: INFO: Connection #0 established
Unity-Mail: ERROR: Error in connection #0: exception occured: command: SEARCH => unexpected response: 'b'763 2764 [...shortened...] 7580''

I think the reason why the patch is not working for me is that Gmail does not support the \Recent flag:

@Stefan: Can you please try changing _MAXLINE value in imaplib.py (i.e. /usr/lib/python3.4/imaplib.py) and see what value is enough for you?

Stefan (gonzales00) wrote :

I slightly modified the script, and therefore I can tell you the response size: 12176 bytes (2578 unread messages). Hard-coded limits suck. :-(

Yes. It shows up and is checked.

Dmitry Shachnev (mitya57) wrote :

@Stefan: I made the current Bzr snapshot override _MAXLINE with 160000. Hope that helps.

@maverick: Can you please attach your ~/.xsession-errors and ~/.config/autostart/unity-mail-autostart.desktop? Does running "unity-mail" in terminal print any warnings? Do you use Unity 7?
