Thank you for reporting this bug. Have you restarted Unity after launching books-lens.py? ("unity --replace" from another terminal or Alt+F2).
At the time being, Unity doesn't launch Lenses when its already running and has to be restarted. The only way of "resolving" this bug, is launching the lens at startup: this will come soon via a PPA.
