$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface menubar-accel "<Alt>F10" $ gconftool-2 --set --type bool /desktop/gnome/interface/menubar_accel "<Alt>F10" $ gconftool-2 --set --type bool /apps/gnome-terminal/global/use_menu_accelerators false
That will, unfortunately, leave you with the context menu on F10, bugreports: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=661973 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=658392
