I can also report some other strange behavior with very bad consequences.

I made an ubuntu 10.04 USB disk (with persistence)
and then in windows I edited syslinux.cfg using wordpad (which I know I shouldn't have done due to CR/LF difference).

When I booted of the USB I got this error BUT my flash drive's data was also destroyed.

There was no partition and when I opened the volume with hex editor I saw that it had "Missing operating system error" and a lot of zero bytes on the beginning as if the data was not written just to the screen but, also to the USB volume.

I have an intel G41 chipset mobo if that is important...

Also, I probably have an old version of unetbootin, from Ubuntu 10.04
