Bug Description

I installed Kubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr 64-bit twice from a successfully booting USB created from an MD5-sum checked iso with unetbootin 603-1 (in antiX 13.2 32-bit, from Debian testing repos); both times, I got kernel panics 1.2 to 2 seconds into booting, and the user folder was not populated, possibly related to installer jumping from 87% to "reboot". After recreating the USB from the same iso using dd (dd if=/<iso path and file> of=/<usb device>), installation created a successful booting and running Kubuntu 64-bit install. Not sure if this is a Kubuntu installer problem or a unetbootin problem, but I've seen reports (out in the world) of this problem with multiple distros (possibly with various versions of unetbootin; uncertain), and there's a warning on the Ubuntu installation instructions page that "unetbooting produces a somewhat different USB" (though that may only refer to the bootloader unetbootin installs).

I am also experiencing this issue on Debian Jessie. When attempting to boot any operating system using the USB installation image created by unetbootin, kernel panics occur with an output stating, "Failed to load libutiil.c32" and "Failed to load COM32 file /syslinux/menu.c32" When using dd to create a LiveCD or installation, operating system environments and/or installers load normally.
