I just want to confirm that I am having the same issue. I just added all the Studio packages to my vanilla 9.10 install and downloaded the rt kernel. Generic kernel has no problems, but the rt only works with nosmp.

Kernel: 2.6.31-9-rt
Pentium D 2.8GHz
nVidia 7600
2 GB RAM
