Bug Description

I installed the latest U1 for Windows, which is as best as I can tell, 4.0.0.0, and try to launch application and get nothing - no splash, no tray icon, etc.

I am running 32bit Win7 Professional, SP1 in a VirtualBox instance (5gb of 8gb free on HDD, 1gb memory,1024x768 @ 32bit color, 16mb video memory, Intel PRO/1000 MT bridged adapter, all on an Ubuntu host). It is a very clean install, with few other programs (Adobe AIR, Flash Player 11, Adobe Media Player, .NET Framework 4, MVC++ 2005, VM Guest Additions, and Ubuntu One).

No Windows event logs show anything out of the ordinary. Cleared them, attempted to start, rechecked logs and nothing. I see the ubuntuone-control-panel-qt.exe attempt to run in task manager, but sometimes it quickly disappears, others it just stays in the process list for a bit, then disappears. As far as services go, I do have Windows Defender, FIrewall, and Search all disabled (I tried turning them on and re-trying - no luck).

The ubuntuone controlpanel log (app data, local, xdg, cache, ubuntuone, log) is empty. The sso-client log only has entries that state:

<timestamp> ubuntu_sso.utils.webclient.qtnetwork - INFO - Querying OS for proxy.

I have gone in and turned of the auto detect proxy settings from IE (and rebooted) -> no luck there either.

ONCE -> i got an error about not finding Python27.dll, reinstalled client and the error went away, but still no start.

Finally, I also tried both installing and starting using the "Run as Administrator" right click option.

Same on Windows 7 64bit.
- Installs correctly
- On launch, I see momentarily the ubuntuone-control-panel-qt.exe and then disappears.

However, I was able to start it as an administrator.

The problem with this approach is that it created the Ubuntu One folder with different permissions thus requiring elevation for every write access. A workaround is to let it create the Ubuntu One folder, then exit it and go and reset all explicit permissions. Seems to be working after that.
