Bug Description

My Documents folder (which redirects to My Documents) is well over 40GiB on Windows. That's because many applications are using it to save their stuff - most of this (live virtual machine images) is not worth syncing. I'd like to be able to point to any local folder, and tell U1 to sync it with remote folder of my choice.

Hello!

Ubuntu One allows you to sync any folder of your choice as long as is in inside your profile (home) directory.
And, in fact, My Documents is not synced by default, so if that folder is being synchronized in your installation, I would guess you chose it to sync during setup or from the control panel.

I will close this report as invalid, if i miss understood what you mean, please add a comment and I will receive a notification.

Thanks a lot for helping us making Ubuntu One better!
Natalia.

Hmm, let me rephrase that using an example.

I have a calibre library with my books, which I keep under Linux in the $HOME/Documents folder. Now, I'd like to sync it to the Windows but when I select Documents folder in the Ubuntu One, the application decides that it should store it in the local %USERPROFILE%\Documents\ folder, which on my Windows 7 installation, is a link to the %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\ folder.

My Documents is pretty much a default location for every application to save its stuff under windows, hence this folder is way over 40GiB and syncing it with Ubuntu One, just to get my calibre library, is not really an option.

Thanks for the clarification.

Every user defined folder will be synced from the server to a local installation in a path that mimics the path which was used to originally create the folder. So, if you created the first time under ~/Documents, that would be the path in every other device you want to subscribe to that folder.

In windows, the ~ path is the user home, which is %USERPROFILE%. So, ATM, we don't have the needed infrastructure in syncademon in order to map locally server paths to local paths.

So, I'll mark the bug as wishlist.

Cheers!
Natalia.
