Given your arguments, we are tempted to make this an official SRU instead of a backport.

To help argue the case, could you come up with more detailed examples showing how the current version in xenial is incompatible with the world?

Some ideas:
- you said the kernel has incorporated zstd, do you have an example? Perhaps even better, an example that shows how zstd 0.5.1 in xenial is incompatible with what the xenial kernel (or hwe kernel for xenial) supports?
- can we demonstrate that zstd in xenial cannot decompress some zstd file compressed with the current upstream version? Perhaps a public file or URL somewhere even?
