I confirm what Michael Bewley (michael-bewley) wrote on 2012-10-19. This helped for me:

$ apt-get purge python-pymssql
$ pip install Cython
$ pip install pymssql

Version info:

$ dpkg -l freetds-common
ii freetds-common 0.82-7
