The problem was not fixed with the above, as I discovered that of course it only fixes my terminal. Other applications (e.g. PyCharm) could not see the executables from snaps.

Creating ~/.pam_environment with the following content did the trick:

PATH DEFAULT=${PATH}:/snap/bin
