As far as I understand updated ubuntu kernels are available in mint as I think they pull from the same archives. Why don't you try enabling proposed and checking since you are clearly running mint. Also per comment 75 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1338706/comments/75
This has also been fixed in 3.16.
