The only work-around that works for me is logging out and logging back in. Yet, as others have mentioned, this has to be done every time I boot my machine.

Since rebooting doesn't work, what does logout accomplish that reboot doesn't? That's an essential question. Perhaps Pavel has answered this in #60?

I'm on the verge of just reinstalling Ubuntu 14.10. This bug is the only failure of upgrading from 14.04 to 14.10 that I've experienced. Since I can't get it to go away in a permanent way, I've very close to doing a reinstall.
