I can confirm this problem in Kubuntu 14.04 on two kernels: vmlinuz-3.13.0-103-generic-efi.signed, in 14.04 vmlinuz-3.13.0-105-generic-efi.signed, in 14.04
(The details of my test are in the thread Rod Smith cited: https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php?71204-Cannot-load-latest-kernels&p=396267&viewfull=1#post396267 -- I have no problem booting the kernel vmlinuz-3.13.0-100-generic-efi.signed, in 14.04 directly by UEFI using stub loader (on an ASUS H97-PLUS motherboard).)
