Bug Description

[Impact]
 * gnome-contacts-search-provider regularly crashes.
 * This is caused by the bytestring_type.patch which is no longer required since vala 0.17.3 (see BGO: #679423)

[Testcase]
From gnome-shell overview
- Start with a short search that brings up a list of contacts results
- Wait a second and then add a letter to the search so there are no results
- gnome-contacts-search-provider will crash.

[Regression Potential]
None, the patch was originally added to fix a FTBS, it is no longer required.

This is caused by the type change introduced by, bytestring_type.patch

From the changelog it seems that patch was added as a workaround for an introspection bug, hopefully that might have been fixed in the latest g-i.

Adam Conrad (adconrad) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello Gerhard, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-contacts into raring-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-contacts/3.6.2-0ubuntu2.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!
