It is my understanding that apt-get works well in these situations --
did you mean that *aptitude* wants to remove those packages?

If you must install foreign-arch packages and aptitude gives you
grief, use another package manager.

While I'm certain that some people have attempted to fix this (myself
included), to my knowledge there is no one doing this currently.
Twiddling the bug status is not going to change anyone's priorities[1]
nor will it magically conjure a fix.

Aptitude's developers are volunteers. Ubuntu provides other package
managers which do not have this problem.

I suspect that "voting" with your hands by submitting a patch will be
far more effective.
