Please ignore what I'd tried prior to that in that forum thread! It's a BAD IDEA because you then can't downgrade 'fontconfig-config' and 'libfontconfig1' if so desired!!!
But no one jumped up to help so I continued on my own. No problem in Lubuntu:

Upgrading 'abiword' in Lubuntu was a piece of cake and it works great!
Not so much in Ubuntu. Abiword is not a default app in Ubuntu but with a freshly installed and updated Ubuntu Precise if I want to install 'abiword' I get:

Clearly the 'mathview' pkgs are not installed and maybe there's a problem with 'ttf-lyx' due to this change:
depends on 'fonts-lyx' instead of transitional 'ttf-lyx'
(Closes: #674820)
It all gets too complex for my simple mind but I'd been pushing for an SRU and I just don't see how we can do that w/o some serious dev help.
As I said I can use Julien's PPA version in Lubuntu w/o problems but in Ubuntu I get that "page jump while typing in a multiple page document" problem and I'd suspect that the lack of those "mathview" pkgs could be problematic for those who wish to integrate with 'gnumeric' ??????????????
Just for poops and giggles I'll purge that PPA in Ubuntu, then install 'abiword' and show you what happens:

You see it wants to remove 'abiword-plugin-mathview' and then if I run apt-get -f install it would recommend removing 'libgtkmathview0c2a'.
Complicated huh?
Then I get the page jump thing, but only in Ubuntu!
So I just can't recommend an SRU or moving that PPA version from staging upwards because I'd think we need to build pkgs that work with all flavors .............. or do we?
This relates only to using Julien's staging PPA. I wrote a test case before beginning:
