compat-wireless is a package of drivers from the latest kernels, but you can
compile them for older kernels.
You can get them here: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Download

your module by creating a file in /etc/modprobe.d/ (something
like /etc/modprobe.d/inteldisablen.conf
and including: options iwlagn 11n_disable50=1 11n_disable=1

after that try:
sudo rmmod iwlagn
sudo modprobe iwlagn

Unfortunately, I believe 5300 will also have the same problems ):
