Hi there, I am the guy from ex Bug 506539.
It is pretty clear, that it's any fuse thing which can cause this hang of things which want to read the fuse-mounted directorys - i.e. also sshfs.

So I just straced sshfs as root, mounting user blub of moviestation:/home/blub into /root/temp/huch (in the middle I had to enter the password, until this part it works, after entering the password it pukes a lot more into the strace output file and stops when it tries to access the freshly created mountpoint, at least this is where the strace stops as you can see). For the hackerkiddies out there: Its a dummy user with a dummy password on a dummy machine running on freebsd.

Maybe this helps a bit (I am absolutely not the one who is able to interpret that strace stuff - so maybe the whole action is a bit naive).

I mean - err - fuse just *has* to work! Really! (But you know this already I guess :) )

What's also interesting. I know for sure that sshfs did work right after installing fedora 11, also after installing that famous first 110 MB updates (reduced to bits by presto), and so did gvfs.
That would mean nothing less than this is *not* kernel related in the first line. Maybe other kernel modules start to fight back after a while, I dunno.

I will hang in the strace output file of my sshfs experiment within the next minutes.
