Using kernel 2.6.28rc6 and new drivers mesa 7.3 from xorg edgers of jaunty (https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive) glxgears reports around 1100 FPS. (intrepid just 600)

1)I compiled kernel using kernelcheck utility (http://kcheck.sourceforge.net/)
2) Add xorg edgers repository
