mattcasters: glyphcache is enabled by default now. See the changelog of 180.06 ("Enabled the X Render "GlyphCache" by default.")

Shock: I have packaged the new release (I was affected by the font corruption bug too) and I have just asked a core developer to upload it to Jaunty.

ma2412ma: it depends on how busy core developers are. I'll let you know when the new packages are available in the backports.
