I don't remember exactly what my drives are, but I can tell you that they are both IDEs - One is a DVD writer, one's just a run-of-the-mill CD reader. Both are stocks from an HP Pavilion a730n (literally the only things I haven't replaced in that computer yet!). The DVD writer is in fact a Lite-on. Perhaps this is only affecting that type?
I installed Wubi on the Windows machine I'm using now using a livecd installer from when Intrepid first came out and the problem was there. I installed udev 124-9 and the problem immediately disappeared. One drive was a TDK DVD writer and the other an HP DVD writer.
I'll be back at my box on Tuesday, ready to assist further if need be.
I'm 32 bit with the generic kernel.
