As we are on suspend issues with some competent kernel people in this thread, another delay issue at suspend (depending on network interfaces/configuration, this can lead to >30sec delay with a black screen) could be considered.
A configuration ack can be done, but wired network modules could integrate a link-up check before trying to setup interfaces so that this issue could be solved in direct configurations as well as in every network managers.
It have been assigned to pm-utils by someone but to my mind this is really a kernel/network driver modules issue that clearly show at resume... but not only.
