@VictorGreen: You can add that line anywhere to the file (ibm.hk), as long as it's on a separate line. I'm not sure what exactly needs to be restarted in order to make it work (especially since it says the bug is in the kernel, as it works with 2.6.22), but I waited until I restarted my whole machine before testing it out. It worked fine after a restart.

I think ibm.hk is preferable to rc.local. My understanding is that rc.local is a sort of generic startup script which is run in Debian-based distributions at the end of all the multi-user boot levels, whereas ibm.hk is specifically for this sort of thing. Both ought to work I guess, but it seems ibm.hk is a more appropriate place.
