FWIW, I raised #1872488 with the same issue.

IMHO - admittedly "opinion" - this severely impairs usability; it should be classed as an accessibility issue.

My monitor is a fairly high-end Eizo FlexScan EV2785. I have looked at the screenshot attached to #1872488 on that, my laptop's screen and my iPad (all three, less than a year old) with the same conclusion.

There should at least be an _option_ to get better contrast; for example by choosing the "light" or "standard" appearance in Settings.

The cost of your monitor actually doesn't have much to do with its colour accuracy. Although I find it strange even an iPad would exhibit the problem because Apple is good at colour...

I still don't see any issue on a factory calibrated (100% sRGB) Dell U2413. The contrast is quite high enough.

I wonder if the iPad display would suffer from a screenshot taken on a non perfectly calibrated display. Indeed we have never had before complaints about this detail, but at the same time the contrast can be tweaked a little for such case

@c-lobrano: Glad to see this issue is being addressed, thank you! I can't imagine that it is Canonical's goal to restrict its user base to people with perfectly calibrated monitors and/or working in darkened rooms.
