@Jesse - When you say you "tried installing the deb" does that mean that you downloaded a debian package and tried to install it manually (on intrepid?). I think you the issue stems from one of the dependent packages (perhaps konsole).

Yakuake has the following dependencies:
kdebase-runtime
kdelibs5
libc6
libqt4-dbus
libqtcore4
libqtgui4
libstdc++6
libx11-6
libxrender1
konsole

So my best guess on where to go from here is: 1) try it out on jaunty 2)get all these packages from jaunty 3) you can always add the jaunty repositories to your souces.list, remove and reinstall yakuake and then take those jaunty repositories out of the sources.list file as to not update any other packages. Do NOT run update manager or apt-get upgrade while the jaunty repositories are in the sources.list or else you will have one messy system. If you need any help, just ping me on freenode IRC.
