Bug Description

The screen just doesn't come back on upon resuming after suspending. I have explained the issue here: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2417575 and there are links to how other people have explained the same issue with the same device. Many people have the same problem with their TeraScale 2 evergreen cards. My card has been listed as compatible under "REDWOOD" in the description of these Xorg packages but it still isn't functional right away. I had to use "nomodeset" just to run the installation media with the monitor turned on and after installing every FOSS driver "Modesetting" still appears to be unloaded. Firstly we have to look at a tiny portion of a log from the same device running an older version of SLAX with much older Xorg drivers probably from 2013 and it is perfectly functional so it is obvious that the update has made some devices less functional to the point that they are not even usable anymore. I have also attached some screenshots for some more information because it didn't have "inxi" however unlike the newer version of X-server "xrandr" was perfectly functional. It is obvious that the hardware used to be perfectly operational with the older drivers but the updated version has made it far less functional. Here's a portion of the of the perfectly functional older version of X-server from SLAX-7:

and of course there are three screenshots from this operating system for more information about the functional older driver. Here are links to two of them and the third image has been attached:

Now lets consider more of the information that is available at the link above from the newer OS and Xorg.0.log from the newer version of X-server running on Ubuntu 18.04:

I had select the "xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd" package already but for some reason is still says "xserver-xorg-input-evdev" under "affects" I'm trying to correct that but I'm not sure if it will work.

affects: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) → xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd (Ubuntu)

I do not own an AMD GPU
i have an Nvidia GPU but it happened the same thing.

The resolution is stuck at 1024*768 too BUT I suppose its NOT X-Org related

I found out that GCC got updated but the Kernel was Compiled using the old version of GCC - which breaks CC checks which leads to DKMS not working

Check if it is the same to you too - i've seen in your logs that you Kernel GCC version is 8.3 - but your system Version is 7.4

try installing gcc-8-base (or check if it is installed) - if it fixes yours i'll probably open an own bug report

I can't get any linux distro to work except for SLAX-7 which is probably from 2013. I did a Kernel update hoping that would fix it that might explain the version mismatch. So should I install gcc-8-base using

sudo apt-get install gcc

?

yes, try to install gcc-8-base and gcc

It says:
gcc is already the newest version

so I tired this to be more specific:

sudo apt-get install gcc-8-base

gcc-8-base is already the newest version (8.3.0-6ubuntu1~18.04).
