description |
Sometimes when doing clicking on something in GNOME (or Unity, in 14.04 (haven't tested Unity in 15.10)) like 'Activities' or an application like Maps in the Applications section of Activities, or even 'Details' in the GNOME Control Center (or simply clicking on the Unity Control Center icon in the Launcher in Unity), the computer will freeze and I can't even switch to a login terminal and have to hard shutdown.
This happens frequently although irregularly. I can usually avoid the bug if I don't use Activities or Settings... I don't think this happens using the Nvidia drivers (though I will check) and it doesn't happen with GNOME Flashback (so I presume it's a problem with Nouveau and '3D' desktop environments/window managers).
I'm really sorry I can't be any more specific than this at the moment. Please point me in the right direction to learn more about this bug if need be.

Occasionally when this bug occurs the screen shows a terminal-like display with something like 'GPU lockup' written on it. Someone suggested that it may just be because the graphics card in the model is outdated but it has no problems running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or Windows 8.

description |
Sometimes when doing clicking on something in GNOME (or Unity, in 14.04 (haven't tested Unity in 15.10)) like 'Activities' or an application like Maps in the Applications section of Activities, or even 'Details' in the GNOME Control Center (or simply clicking on the Unity Control Center icon in the Launcher in Unity), the computer will freeze and I can't even switch to a login terminal and have to hard shutdown.
This happens frequently although irregularly. I can usually avoid the bug if I don't use Activities or Settings..., it doesn't happen with GNOME Flashback (so I presume it's a problem with Nouveau and '3D' desktop environments/window managers).
I'm really sorry I can't be any more specific than this at the moment. Please point me in the right direction to learn more about this bug if need be.
Seems to be a bug that appeared in Linux 3.7 https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=156690 .
The Nvidia 304 drivers don't work at all once logged in.
Occasionally when this bug occurs the screen shows a terminal-like display with something like 'GPU lockup' written on it. Someone suggested that it may just be because the graphics card in the model is outdated but it has no problems running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or Windows 8.
