I have the same problem. It is a very old problem (years). When I use the open driver instead of the proprietary one, I have random frequent freezes (no more remote ssh, no more mouse; only the static last image). The only possibility is a brutal reset, resulting inconsole emergency at reboot and "fsck /home" (very danderous).
