Very good. Can you please try again, but enter these commands before the "run" command:
 handle SIGUSR1 nostop
 handle SIGUSR2 nostop
 handle SIGPIPE nostop

Additionally, it would help to make the backtrace more complete if you install the xserver-xorg-core-dbg and xserver-xorg-video-savage-dbg packages. At least for the latter you will need to add the "ddebs" repository, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash

Finally, if you have the chance to test a Jaunty live CD, it would be great to see if the bug is already resolved there.
