I've updated to the 12.04 LTS
The system crashes usually by using of gimp.
You can move the mous, but nothing to click.
You can login to the console and use the system and restart the pc.

HW:
Geforce 6100PM-M2
AMD Athlon 64x2Dual Core Proc 5000+
1024 M OK with 128 k shared Mem
CPU: Simple Chan. 64bit,2T
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
(GNU/Linux 3.2.0-38-generic-pae-I686

Please help, or I have to downgrade back to 10.04
