By any chance do some of you use Chromium 20/22? I recall that there was an issue where Chromium would free due to an ongoing problem with X11, Nvidia Drivers and Chrome's ability to use hardware acceleration.

I experienced the same issue which is a total X11 lockup and a need to hard reset and it was entirely due to two things:
a) Did not use latest Nvidia drivers from the X-SWAT PPA.
b) Used Chromium and DID NOT download Chrome Official directly from Google which is maintained better, https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/?&brand=CHMB&utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-ha-na-us-sk&utm_medium=ha
c) Used Chrome without putting the Command-line flag --disable-accelerated-compositing
Please try the above steps and if the problem does not happen then it is Chromium bug #145600..
