This Ubuntu installation has passed through 2 different computers:

1) HP/Compaq dx5150 (http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12105_div/12105_div.HTML)

IIRC, I had been getting this error since I started using Unity when I installed the first alpha of the upcoming 11.10 (before I upgraded my computer).

The truth is that I have being getting so many problems with the Unity desktop that I didn't bother to report all of them.
