In comment #29, I meant to say that I installed Ubuntu Desktop 11.04 amd64.
With regards to this video tearing problem, it appears that the desktop plays a role too.
With the same flash version installed I see the following results:
Flash video tearing occurs with KDE desktop, and XFCE4 desktop.
Flash video tearing _does not occur_ with Unity desktop.
I had expected that flash video would work identically in each of these desktops.
With the Big Bang Theory video (and different default video players) I see video tearing with each of the KDE desktop, XFCE4 desktop, and the Unity Desktop. These desktops are the defaults with kubuntu 11.04, mythbuntu 11.04, and ubuntu 11.04 respectively.
