Problem Description
-------------------------
In pre-Lucid days, up to Karmic, I've always been able to move my monitor out of sleep mode by moving the mouse or pressing any key. I can't do that anymore after I upgraded the system to Lucid LTS 10.04. Following an idle period on my PC, and after the monitor goes into sleep mode, I can't get any more video output on my VGA port, no matter what I do.
The computer remains alive however, I can ssh into it from another machine and work with it normally. Using this remote terminal I can restart GDM and I can hear the PC working and the "drumming" noise of GDM starting, but there is no video output. The only way to get it back is by rebooting the computer.
Solution
----------
Following Ubuntu's "troubleshooting xorg freezes" guide, I added the line
Option "DPMS" "Off"
to the monitor section of my xorg config file and everything is fine now, well, without the DPMS feature :-(
Other Info:
------------- Bug #509186 reports a similar problem with the G35 chip set. However, I see no errors in my Xorg log files.
