The issue is (as stated on the wiki) that support for this particular graphics adapter is poor. Different workarounds will work for different people, and there is no one workaround for all (yet).
The best advice I can give is use the .19 kernel that worked previously, or try the 2.6.34 as described in comment 20.
If you were planning on rolling out 10.04 to your 50 development laptops, I would advise waiting a month or 2 on Karmic. Every release comes and it takes a while for all the major bugs to be sorted. If you were upgrading because 10.04 is an LTS release, remember 8.04 LTS is still supported for another year.
