I booted the computer - which is described in #94 and uses U-9.04. Made a change to the Visual Effects menu.
Went to System - Preferences - Appearance - Visual Effects and selected "none".
Then booted the system using the CD-ROM w/ the U-9.10 ISO file. Selected "Try Ubuntu Without Change to Your Computer' and the demo ran fine. No system freeze this time.
Went to the Visual Effects menu and selected "normal" and the system froze w/ in a few seconds.
