I have the same version of libcairo2: 1.8.8-2ubuntu1. Reinstalling cairo did not help. Downgrading cairo to the version in Jaunty did not seem to help either. The Ubuntu version's buildconfig does include "--enable-system-cairo".

The mozilla-central nightly you linked to unfortunately *does* exhibit the problem, even though it does not have "--enable-system-cairo". The builds I tested did not have "--enable-system-cairo" either -- or at least not the ones from the 23rd and 24th.
