nandhp: I see from the launchpad bug that you still see this issue on a clean profile. (And I've just confirmed that I *don't* see the issue, even with a clean profile.)

So, we need to narrow down what's different about our Karmic boxes that's causing the problem on your system but not on mine.

Could you try the following:
 (a) switch to Ubuntu's default Gnome theme ("Human"), reboot (to make sure all old-theme stuff gets cleared), and then see if you can reproduce?
 (b) boot from the official Karmic Beta LiveCD[1], and see if you can reproduce this in the LiveCD environment?
