I want to thank you and the Ubuntu community of creating a fabulous Unix distribution...I've fixed this problem by buying a new Radeon HD 4550 Graphics Card...I popped it into the computer and booted up to a beautiful 1910 x 1080 screen without any Ubuntu display changes. Impressive. However, this is a real bug as far as I'm concerned, since the prior release 9.04 had much a much better resolution with the exact same hardware.
I'll sign up for the Lucid Beta when it is available. No more Windows for me.
Thank you, Adrian

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed
Bug description:
Karmic Netbook Remix Alpha 6
Intel 945G graphics
The display applet shows 2 options only: 640x480 and 800x600 whereas the screen is an LCD (1360x768)
Creating the following xorg.conf and restarting gdm shows the higher resolutions in the display applet:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "<default monitor>"
HorizSync 31.5-48.0
VertRefresh 56.0-65.0
EndSection
