No, that's not the same issue here. Running from the live CD, it freezes right after desktop shows, even before I can move the mouse. I tried to upgrade from Karmic Alpha 6 (in which I can use it for minutes till it freezes), with effects disabled, and then enable them, but it really always takes less than 30 seconds to freeze.
But, even with effects disabled, Blender still crashes Ubuntu, just like it did on Jaunty.
