The boot is just the kubuntu logo with the "progress bar", after a while there is some flicker of the screen (seem some kind o card probing process, or maybe a multiple restart of xorg), and then the console is shown.
The console is somewhat at a "wrong" resolution (i cannot see some lines at the bottom). But it works normally.
So I, as reported in a previous reply, executing startx sometimes starts x correctly (with kde4 and all the various accessories) I can also enable the effects.
I've just recorded the i386 version of jaunty and i have exactly the same problem.
