My monitor is a Samsung 205BW. I tried this http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-648349.html (with some modifications due to the intel 2.5.1 driver i compiled) without any luck the other day.

I have also tried changing the compiz settings so that it doesnt detect the refresh rate or anything else for that matter.
