Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

In 8.04 and 8.10 alpha 4 the Intel integrated Graphics GM965 or 965GM video drivers fail to work for the live CD. To get the system into the live environment you must boot into safe mode video (Vesa driver).

You can get the intel_drv.so to work however you need to modify the xorg.conf file by hand (auto detection/config does not function).

The best possible work around (that I have found) for this bug is to install with the vesa drivers and then modify the default xorg.conf like the following....

In the Device section add the line

        Option "monitor-LVDS" "LVDS"

and setup your Monitor section to look like....

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "LVDS"
        Option "Ignore" "True"
EndSection

Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Thanks in advance.

I forgot. You also should remove the following line.

The xorg.conf at http://launchpadlibrarian.net/17030304/xorg.conf and attached to this bug is problematic for the following reason:
There cannot be Broken References:
{'Device': {}, 'InputDevice': {}, 'Screen': {}, 'Monitor': {'Configured Monitor': None}, 'ServerLayout': {}}

I'm assuming your studio hybrid has the same chip as mine (PCI ID subsys 1028:0279) which I'm putting a fix in for. If not, please attach the output of lspci -vvnn and un-dupe it, and I'll add a quirk for yours too.
