Based on the description, the issue is a freeze, not a crash. If it were a crash you could obtain a backtrace (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing). With freezes it's not so easy.
Please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log. This is required before anyone can begin troubleshooting the bug.
X bugs are indicated by filing against package xorg, not by assigning to canonical-xorg. Fixing.
